Criterium de Castillon pro bike race, 2006 - Lostende Tours Cycling, biking and wine tasting trip

Christophe Moreau attacks up the hill and goes on to win the 2006 Criterium de Castillon.

The annual Criterium de Castillon Pro Bike Race.  This is an annual professional bike race, and the first following the Tour de France.  It takes place in the opening week of August at the town of Castillon la Bataille, which is about 4 miles from the Chateau de Pitray.  The race course is a 1.5 to 2 mile loop that climbs and descends a hillside that the riders attack for 2 hours.  Many of the riders will have ridden in the Tour de France.  The race is a must see.  Unlike the Tour de France, where you see the riders once as they zoom past, in this race you will see them as many times as they go around the loop, which is a lot.  It is a lot of fun and very exciting.  The race starts late in the afternoon so we will have time to ride earlier in the day, eat lunch and then see the race.  I will let the pictures do the talking as they can describe the atmosphere better than I.  Maybe some of you will recognize the French riders Laurent Jalabert wearing the climbers jersey from the Tour de France, and Virenque or Christophe Moreau, and Jackie Durant.
